Councils require money to finance the resources it needs to provide public services. Therefore, every resident, councillor or other stakeholder should take an interest in the way their council is funded and the finances of its council.
A sound budget is essential to ensure effective financial control in any organisation and the preparation of the annual budget is a key activity at every council.
The role of Finance Chair is to work with the Council’s responsible officer, in our case the Town Clerk, liaising with the officer responsible in setting and preparing budgets.
The chair also liaises with Council’s auditor, and ensures that our council is receiving best value from both our assets and the way that our funds are used within our town.
The Chair of Finance in conjunction with the Town Clerk calls finance meetings with an agreed agenda.
Finance Meetings are held on a monthly basis and notice for the meetings are via the BTC website.
