A Message from Mayor John Carr
Dear Brightlingsea Residents,
As your Town Council, we are committed to ensuring our beautiful town remains a safe and pleasant place for everyone. While Brightlingsea Town Council is not directly responsible for the maintenance of footpaths, alleyways, roads, and pavements around town, we recognise that residents often look to us for leadership and support in these matters. The primary responsibility for these areas lies with Essex County Council Highways.
However, we understand that as your local representatives, we are more accessible and closer to the community than Essex Highways might be and know more about local issues than Highways Engineers who work across the entire County. We often receive reports from residents about various issues, from overgrown hedges and weeds to potholes and broken bridges. These reports come to us through various channels, including direct contact, phone calls and emails.
To streamline this process and ensure that your concerns are addressed promptly and efficiently, we have established a system to log and report each fault we are informed about. Every reported issue is documented and included in a monthly report, which is then presented at our Council meetings. Our dedicated County Councillor can then chase up these issues with Essex Highways on our behalf.
We encourage you to report any faults you encounter. The more information we have, the better we can advocate for timely repairs and maintenance. Here’s how you can report issues to us:
- In Person: Visit the Parish Hall to report the issue directly to our staff.
- Phone: Call us on 01206 303535 to describe the problem and provide details.
- Email: Send a detailed email to admin@brightlingseatowncouncil.gov.uk.
When reporting an issue, please provide as much information as possible. This includes:
- Location: Be specific about where the problem is located. If possible, use the What3Words app to provide a precise location.
- Photos: Attach clear photos of the issue to help us understand the severity and exact nature of the problem.
- Description: Give a detailed description of the problem. This could be anything from an overgrown hedge, a pothole, a broken footbridge, an alleyway overgrown with weeds, a dirty sign, to a blocked drain—essentially anything affecting where we walk, drive, cycle, or travel by other means.
By reporting these issues, you play a crucial role in helping us maintain the quality of our town’s infrastructure. Remember, if issues are not reported, they cannot be fixed. Do not rely on the assumption that someone else has already reported the problem. Your report could be the key to getting a fault resolved.
We are committed to working closely with Essex County Council to ensure that the necessary repairs and maintenance are carried out promptly. Your co-operation and proactive reporting are invaluable in this effort.
